BrahMos Aerospace bids farewell to Dr. Avinash Chander

NEW DELHI: BrahMos Aerospace bid adieu to Dr. Avinash Chander, Secretary Department of Defence R&D, DG DRDO and SA to RM, who is also the Co-Chairman of Supervisory Council of BrahMos Joint Venture on 28th January 2015 at BrahMos Headquarters, New Delhi.

Addressing the crowd of young scientists, engineers and staff, Dr. Avinash Chandra said, "BrahMos is the most successful missile company of the nation and it is this unique blend of young and experienced team members motivated with innovation and utmost dedication that has contibuted to the success of the missile system."

BRAHMOS is the pride of India and I am sure that the young team would continue the tradition of success, he added.

Dr. Chander was presented with a memento by Shri Sudhir Mishra, CEO & MD, BrahMos Aerospace.

The chief architect of the long-range Agni series of ballistic missile systems, Dr. Chander led India to successfully develop and test 5000-km range Agni-V, which enabled the nation to join the elite club of five advanced nations.

In recognition for distinguised service of high order, he was conferred with the "Padma Shri" by Govt. of India.

The distinguished scientist has also been bestowed with numerous other awards and honours including Rocketry and Related Technologies Award (1997) by the Astronautical Society of India; DRDO Scientist of the Year Award (1989); Agni Award for Excellence in Self-Reliance (1999); Dr Biren Roy Space Science and Design Award (2000); DRDO Award for Path Breaking Research and Outstanding Technology Development (2007); Outstanding Technologist Award (2008) by Punjab Technical University; Technology Leadership Award (2008); and Distinguished Alumnus Award of IIT (2011), New Delhi.

He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineers, Systems Society of India, Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences, and Vice-President of Astronautical Society of India.
